Misty Guantonio  LMFT, LCADC

I am a dual-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) with nearly 30 years of experience in health education, behavioral health, and clinical practice. At Thrivewell, I help adults, couples, healthcare professionals, first responders, and others in high-demand roles navigate trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, burnout, substance use concerns, and major life transitions.

My approach is collaborative, direct, compassionate, and grounded in trauma-informed, evidence-based care. I believe meaningful therapy begins with safety, trust, and a clear understanding of the unique experiences that have shaped you. Together, we identify what is getting in the way and develop practical, personalized strategies to support healing, resilience, and lasting change.

I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant. EMDR is a well-established therapy approach that can help people process traumatic or distressing experiences that continue to affect their emotions, relationships, beliefs about themselves, or day-to-day life. EMDR may be especially helpful for trauma, post-traumatic stress, critical-incident exposure, grief, anxiety, and other experiences that feel difficult to move beyond.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than 20 years in health education. That background continues to shape the way I view well-being: physical health, emotional regulation, occupational stress, relationships, identity, and daily habits are often deeply connected. I also bring experience in substance-use treatment, crisis intervention, Critical Incident Stress Management, and peer-support programming.

I have a particular understanding of the pressures faced by healthcare professionals, first responders, and people working in high-stress or high-risk environments. These roles can involve chronic stress, exposure to trauma, demanding schedules, responsibility for others, and a strong expectation to keep functioning no matter what is happening internally. Therapy can provide a confidential space to slow down, make sense of what you have been carrying, and move forward with greater clarity and self-trust. Your background supports this positioning, including work with healthcare-professional monitoring programs, CISM and peer-support leadership, and public-safety personnel.

Outside of my clinical work, I value balance, connection, and time outdoors. I enjoy CrossFit, staying active, and spending time with family, friends, and my dogs. If you are looking for focused, respectful, trauma-informed care from a clinician who understands both personal challenges and the realities of demanding professional roles, I would be honored to support you on your path toward healing and growth.
